Greater Lawrence Tech Student to Attend Congress of Future Medical Leaders
ANDOVER — Superintendent John Lavoie is pleased to announce that GLTS senior Jennifer Peralta is one of only two students from Massachusetts chosen for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders.
The Congress of Future Medical Leaders is an honors-only program for high school students who plan to become physicians or go into medical research fields, and was founded by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists.
On June 25-27 students from across the country will gather in Lowell, where they’ll:
- Hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science recipients talk about leading medical research.
- Be given advice from Ivy League and other top medical school deans on what to expect in medical school.
- Witness stories told by patients who are living medical miracles.
- Be inspired by fellow teen medical science prodigies.
- Learn about cutting-edge advances and the future of medicine and medical technology.
Organizers of the three-day event hope to inspire, motivate and direct the top students in the country to stay true to their dreams. Following the conference, students will work with leaders in the industry to set a plan for their futures and obtain resources to help them reach their goals.
“This is a crucial time in America when we need more doctors and medical scientists who are even better prepared for a future that is changing exponentially,” said Richard Rossi, Executive Director, National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. “Focused, bright and determined students like Jennifer Peralta are our future and she deserves all the mentoring and guidance we can give her.”
Dr. Mario Capecchi, winner of the Nobel Prize in medicine and science director of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientist, nominated Peralta for a spot in the congress. Her academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine earned a spot at the conference.
Peralta is a member of the GLTS student council, school council, Stand and Deliver, Reggie Leaders and serves as the student representative to the district and the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She also generously volunteers her time as an underclassmen mentor as well as at Lawrence General Hospital and Bread and Roses through the GLTS Interact Club. In the fall, Peralta will attend Allegheny College in Pennsylvania on a full premedical scholarship.
“Jennifer is an outstanding student and fully deserves this opportunity,” said Superintendent Lavoie. “She goes above and beyond to serve her peers and the Lawrence community, and we know that she will excel in whatever path she chooses to pursue.”
