ANDOVER – Greater Lawrence Technical School announces that it will offer a free bilingual advanced manufacturing training program, in collaboration with the MassHire Merrimack Valley Workforce Board and Career Center and Northeast Advanced Manufacturing Consortium.
The program is designed for adults whose primary language is Spanish, and who would benefit from English-language support. The goal is to train 24 non-native English speakers to fill high-demand manufacturing job openings in Lawrence, Haverhill, Newburyport and the Merrimack Valley.
Similar training programs have assisted about 900 people in obtaining steady employment in manufacturing in the Northeast.
“This program will provide a solid foundation to obtaining stable, well-paying jobs in high-demand fields,” Superintendent John Lavoie said. “I highly encourage anyone interested to attend.”
Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, in the late afternoon and early evening. Some training will be online. The program will begin with a 40-hour English-language “Boot Camp” followed by 315 hours of technical training with bilingual assistance. Job placement assistance will be available.
“This career pathway has so many opportunities for growth and stability across many sectors – pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices, aviation, plastics and more,” said Brian Norris, Executive Director of the Merrimack Valley Workforce Board. “People should seriously look at the free training as a huge opportunity to change careers, or more importantly, start a new career.”
Those interested are asked to call 978-722-7000 to register for an information session.
This project is funded by a Sen. Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant through the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and is administered by the Commonwealth Corporation. MassHire programs and services are funded in full by grants from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
